What to file
Updated national minimum wage + modern award minimum rates apply from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026.
Who is affected
All national-system employers — i.e. Pty Ltd companies, incorporated associations and most employers in all states except WA non-incorporated employers.
Penalty if missed
Underpayment recovery + interest, FWO infringement notices, civil penalties up to $99,000 per company contravention and from 1 January 2025 criminal liability for intentional wage theft.

Prep checklist
- Identify every award and classification used in the business
- Update payroll system with new minimum rates effective first full pay period on or after 1 July
- Update over-award and EA rates if the EA references the modern award floor
- Refresh employment contract templates and offer letters
- Communicate the change to employees in writing
