Queensland University of Technology: Fair Work Ombudsman enforceable undertaking
Respondent
Queensland University of Technology
Facts
QUT breached its professional staff enterprise agreements, mainly by not paying overtime, TOIL, minimum rates, meal allowances, casual loading and minimum engagement, due to poor governance and payroll errors. It self-reported in 2021.
Outcome
Fair Work Ombudsman accepted an enforceable undertaking (25 November 2025). Terms include: $1.9M paid to 433 staff; Comprehensive External Review by external auditor; new timesheet system; Council-level monitoring; hotline; six-monthly reports to FWO; $250,000 contrition payment to Cleaning Accountability Framework. An undertaking is not a finding or admission of a contravention unless the regulator says the party admitted it.
