CDU breached its 2013, 2018 and 2022 enterprise agreements for casual professional and academic staff (rates, penalties, minimum engagement, overtime) between 2016 and 2022. A decentralised payroll and poor configuration were blamed.
Outcome
Fair Work Ombudsman accepted an enforceable undertaking (23 June 2026). Terms include: >$4M back-pay to 800+ casual staff; $200,000 contrition payment; up to two independent audits; training; complaints mechanism. An undertaking is not a finding or admission of a contravention unless the regulator says the party admitted it.
