Respondent
The University of NSW
Facts
UNSW admitted underpaying casual academics and some professional staff under its enterprise agreements from 2014 to 2023 and breaching record-keeping and pay slip rules. FWO cited record-keeping failures, poor governance and payroll deficiencies.
Outcome
Fair Work Ombudsman accepted an enforceable undertaking (3 July 2026). Terms include: $32,710,122 back-pay to 33,069 staff; $500,000 contrition payment; up to two compliance audits; mandatory training; bi-monthly reporting to FWO; Joint Consultative Committee; Employee Advocate Platform. An undertaking is not a finding or admission of a contravention unless the regulator says the party admitted it.
