APP (Australian Privacy Principles)
13 principles under the Privacy Act 1988 governing handling of personal information.
The APPs run from collection (APP 1–5), through use and disclosure (APP 6–9), data quality and security (APP 10–11), to individual rights (APP 12–13). All APP entities (Australian government agencies, organisations with turnover >$3M, plus carve-ins) must comply. Removing the small business exemption was a Privacy Act Review recommendation the Government agreed to in principle, but it is deferred to a future reform tranche — not yet law, with no commencement date.
