TFN (Tax File Number)

Personal or entity tax identifier issued by the ATO.

TFNs identify taxpayers for federal tax purposes. Individual TFNs are personal; non-individual TFNs (companies, trusts, partnerships, super funds) are obtained via the ABN application process. Without a TFN, certain payments suffer 47% withholding.
